"Let It Snow" (sometimes also known as "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow"), a pop standard written by lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne in 1945 and first recorded by Vaughn Monroe, became a huge popular hit, reaching #1 on the Billboard music chart the following year.

Due to its seasonal lyrics, "Let It Snow" is commonly regarded as a Christmas song. Yet despite its cheery, holiday feel, it is a love song that never mentions Christmas. (Cahn and Styne, like Irving Berlin, who penned "White Christmas," and several other period composers of popular holiday music, were Jews.)

The romantic lyrics imply a sexual sub-text, as the storm gives the lovers an excuse to extend their tryst: "But as long as you love me so / Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow."

One of the best-selling songs of all time, "Let It Snow" has been covered countless times, with recordings by such wildly varied artists as Boyz II Men, Patsy Cline, Judy Collins, Bing Crosby, Chris Isaak, Dean Martin, Martina McBride, Marie Osmond, Cliff Richard, Jessica Simpson, Carly Simon, Frank Sinatra and Andy Williams. The song gained a resurgence in popularity after it became a recurring theme in the 1988 film Die Hard. It is both used in a traditional fashion and in jest when a police officer sings the song and when he gets to the chorus "Let it snow," a corpse of a criminal suddenly falls on his car at that exact moment as part of John McClane's desperate attempt to alert the authorities of the crisis he is facing.

Simpson's version, recorded for her Rejoyce: The Christmas Album in 2004 (see 2004 in music) and produced by billymann, was the album's first single, and made the top twenty of the Adult Contemporary chart, despite being a limited holiday season single. The video consists of footage of Simpson clutching an umbrella against a fake city backdrop with fake snow.

Frank Sinatra's performance of the song was the 25,000,000th download from Apple's popular online music service iTunes.
